These protocols last like a decade. 60 MB/s is slow today, can't imagine it being bearable in 5-10 years.

And this is why I say it can go either way. The release of the C2D mac systems are not dependent upon the rebate IMO. It might happen or it might not. My guess is that Apple is not releasing their new computers based upon when the rebate ends. They'll simply release them, and if they happen to fall within the rebate period, that's not necessarily by design. But it is our good fortune. :)

Looks neat however if it doesn't have a good calendar and sync w/ iCal it will be useless for me.
I would love to get rid of this Treo I got, but I can't stand putting in any kind of text (calendar appointment, text message, or according to rumors an iChat conversation) with a scroll wheel or a basic numberpad w/ 3-4 letters crammed on each key. Knowing apple though, I will be surprised if they release anything with a full keyboard like the Treo and Blackberrys have.
Still interested to see this thing see the light of day, even though I doubt I will be getting one.

I don't think Apple is aiming for the uber-geek with $25k worth of home entertainment equipment. IMHO, they will never be able to compete in that market.
I think they are reaching for the average joe blow that has a servicable $400 TV that he bought at Wal-mart, and maybe, just maybe, has a stereo hooked up to it. The average Joe doesn't care, and can't tell, that it's Dolby surround and not Dolby Digital.
I have a ten year old surround system worth about $50 and I can tell the difference between Dolby Surround and Dolby Digital. I think his example was way overkill.

Add in Thunderbolt's supposed endless expansion capabilities using adaptors, and is seems like the way to go for the most flexibility, and you could use it as a makeshift desktop, couldn't you?
I ask, because i must upgrade very soon for a job (early April), and I use my system for video editing.
I'm not terribly current on the speed tests comparisons, but I've used a standard Macbook for FCP and the only hit was the rendering on something like making DVD's. For me, the screen real estate, and a machine that will upgrade to Lion, and FCP 4 without choking is key.
Any thoughts?

So the theory they seem to be positing here is that most of the former Symbian users are going to become Windows Mobile users. If you look at the market share figures they show Windows climbing to the 20.9% share that Symbian currently has and Symbian largely ceasing to exist.
The reality is that the OS of phones is becoming the key differentiator. You decide iPhone, Android, or Windows, and then from there you decide the specific hardware you want to run. Nobody is going to be looking for a Nokia phone specifically and then just taking whatever OS it runs.
So if you assume that Android, iOS and Windows are all equal competitors, then figure, at most, Windows is going to take 1/3rd of the market from former Symbian users. Those users will be looking at three OS's that are all completely different from Symbian, so there's no reason to believe they'd have any particular loyalty to the Windows mobile OS because of former Symbian use on a Nokia phone.
They seem to predict that, instead, about 75% of the Symbian users go to Windows mobile. I find that highly unlikely.

If it was generic, the name wouldn't have so much marketing power that Microsoft is willing to spend this much money so they can use it too... Obviously the images are copyrighted by Apple, and those images they don't want people using.
It's just not that cut-and-dried. Apple even provided an API to access these images under Mac OS X. So, seems they do want people using them.

the MB keyboards are ugly, they remind me of some fool proof keyboard for military laptops. They reek of industrial utilitarianism.

OP - I got bored reading all of the posts on here, but here are my 2 cents.
If you ask me, you are completely in the wrong. Here in the UK the law would agree and you would lose your license. If you had been going a little faster it's an instant ban even on an empty road.
However, the legal side doesn't matter. It's not going to be much comfort to you who is right or wrong when someone hits you from behind and gives you whiplash (or worse!).
The speed limit is there for a reason. It's to protect you and those around you when something goes wrong. Don't act like it will never happen to you, because it might!
I recently aquaplaned during wet weather. It was my own fault, I was going too fast, but I wasn't over the speed limit. Luckily I was able to control the car and came to a stop slightly off the road. Any faster, I could have hit another driver or gone into the crash barrier. It's scary how quickly you can lose control (you can really feel the steering going and the back end shifting out!).
Try to learn from what others here are telling you rather than leaving it to experience later.
My Dad was a fireman. To this day he won't speak to me about some aspects of his job (in particular, car accidents) because of just how horrific they can be!

Call me spoiled by all things thin, I think the iMac is looking pretty chunky these days. Not sure why it isn't significantly thinner than it is. The next time they do update the form factor it should essentially look like a giant first gen iPad.
I see no end in itself in the iMac getting thinner. Performance is much more important to me. I think the form factor is fine today, and no, today we can't have both. I want a real computer, not a giant iPad.

As others have said, it looks like it was more than a simple smash and grab...the suspects appear to have been armed. I'm sure as the day goes by we'll get more of an idea of what happened.
