I thought 10 Mega Pixels were possible with some tech that is suppose to arrive at the end of this year for phones.

I wonder if the new phone was like the original iPod Shuffle. You wear it around your neck. That would be funny. I would like the Star Trek Next Generation phone were you tap it on your chest to call people and it automatically goes into speaker phone. That was sort of like the shuffle concept with simple controls and no screen. Even works with iTunes.

Hmmm that is an intresting thought. I saw a demo, over a year ago, of a wireles VoIP phone at Dartmouth University that did just that. They wear them around their neck or use a clip, but it was voice activated, and they actually called them their "Star Trek badges".

This will continue until the Google Android threatens the iPhone. Then Apple will change their policy. Right now Apple simply does not have to care.

You have an excellent point there.

Gee, I love that a thread about a photography event has been hijacked by wishes for a new MacBook Pro. As far as I am concerned the release of these laptops can't come soon enough. For the last month the money has been in the bank for the biggest, bad-ass MacBook Pro that Apple will release so I'm just waiting and hoping now. Following the announcements on Tuesday I may throw in an iPod (3-years+ of Mac and I've only held one once...) unless my wife catches me first.

    Bring it on.

Apple should produce a really light and small MacBook Air: 400 to 600 g and 7-inches. The Mac in your pocket. Always.

Its already there and even smaller - and called iPhone...

    lol!

And so the cries of disappointment begin...
Thats the best part of these forums is watching the buildup until it reaches some ungodly device that is not probable or even possible and then sheer disappointment when Apple announces a decent upgrade to a great product.

There are no major differences but if i were you i'd go back and trade for the new one or just return the iPod and order a new one. Your windows is close not to upgrade..

It doesnt look like the new software features will be added to current 5G iPods. My iPod software just updated and only game functions were added.

what do you mean my windows is close not to upgrade??

and also, is there any chance that i might be succeeding in returning it... or even getting a refund??? i mean i took the vinyl cover off and just totally used it... can i return it right back to the apple store??

This is great news! One of the ReadyNAS I didn't buy a Sandy Bridge MBP is that I want USB3.

Maybe Apple still won't include it.

Well, it would surprise me. USB3.0 and Thunderbolt will come included in Intel''s Ivy Bridge. Apple would have to add more hardware and disable USB 3.0 to make it 2.0 only. Makes zero cents.

And that's exactly the reason they would do it. :D

There is no way Apple would deliberately block/not support USB3 on Mac's is there, to force Apple uses to have to buy Thunderbolt only peripherals and not be able to use cheaper USB3 items?

They would never do that would they?

They might, you never know. Stubornness knows no bounds.

The PC industry is plagued with lowest common denominator, low cost crap.

Apple and Intel are trying to move forward. We should support that.

Did you know that an Apple computer is a pc?

while typing this one of those 20 year animal adoption commercials, they make me want to punch the puppy more than help it. gosh they cant just make a short to the point video no they have to get in your face about it!

hey now, no punching poor homeless abused pets, especially poor sweet puppies and dogs!! i own a sweet doberman that i adopted from paws chicago who was used for dog fighting and now he has a home where he is loved on a daily basis, thats the only way poor abused animals have a chance, making commercials showing the fact that they need peoples help and maybe someone will even adopt one or a few... that would be great as long as the animal got in a good home!

If you look closely though, Microsoft made LESS in revenue ($16billion to Apple's 20billion) but almost equally matches Apple in profit (5.3 billion to Apple's ~6billion). All things equal, Microsoft is still a better company in terms of profitability range due to their significant lower revenue but a close call on profit standards.

There has been a lot of discussion on if just a processor update to MBP calls for a special event or not! Probably not! Firstly the invitation mentions Photokina explicitly and hence the crux of the event has to do something with aperture and photography in general.

As far as update to MBP is concerned, if it is just a processor update, they would do a silent update before the event itself or if that doesn't come along, this means that there is more to it.....Probably a new casing or new add ons to the MBP!

Btw: Microsoft is supposed to unveil its Zune today in front of a special invite only press conference: http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,1895,2015986,00.asp

They wouldn't have to add more hardware. USB3.0 is backwards compatible with 2.0. They would only have to disable 3.0 protocols somehow or artificially speed limit it to 2.0 speeds. I wouldn't put it past them. I KNOW if they got Blu-Ray drives somehow included with their hardware (i.e. only thing available), they would STILL not support it except in DVD/CD mode. Apple will do what they think is best for them NO MATTER WHAT. They don't give a flying rat's hind end about what the consumer wants. Steve thinks he knows better than anyone and he has a whole army of groupies telling him he's right so how on earth could he ever imagine otherwise?

I think this is a bit paranoid. Blu-ray just isn't that great of a tech for Apple to justify the increased cost of adding it to the MacBook Pro. Yes, there is some bias due to their DLC, but I doubt that's the ONLY reason blu-ray isn't available. Plus, I'd rather go without a drive period on my next MacBook. Give me the space savings, extra battery life, etc and let me have a thunderbolt drive, since I never use the drive outside of... installing software, and even that's rare these days.

    Censorship! Don't do it, Apple!

What, its ok for Apple to censor based on its whims, but not the government?

Actually I think they're both wrong. Shouldn't censor. Once the government starts censoring what information was can access, what else is next?

Bleep out phone calls is someone mentions a DUI checkpoint?
Remove all DUI checkpoint discussions from Google? Remove them entirely from the web?

Censorship is a slippery slope. Apple has invited this level of control because of their own Orwellian rules on the app store.

So much for freedom of speech. We are losing all our supposed 'freedoms' in this country at an alarming rate, and few care or notice.

Keep listening to corporate run media which lies and doesn't tell the whole story.. my friend, unemployment and the economy aren't getting any better.. in fact, very soon it will collapse.. as inflation starts to settle in.. and if you wanna know the truth, look at BBC and other non-corporate run media for the truth. I know in my home state its like 7.9 percent and most of the jobs are health care and IT - no industrial, no customer service, nothing else.

See the roll eyes after his post, I think he was being sarcastic.

I think you'll find that rumors of the Mac Pro's death are greatly exaggerated.

Thunderbolt honestly wouldn't bring very much to a Mac Pro right now. They have access via PCI expansion to drives, etc. that keep pace with and even beat Thunderbolt in some instances. As the tech matures it will outpace others and eventually find its way to the Mac Pro. Yes, the iMacs, and the iToys get more and more powerful with every generation...but then, so do the Pros...they all have a space on Apple's buffet bar.

I agree, I think it'll be great for the portable's and consumer items, to be able to customize certain peripherals to the individual needs, at the moment I have a PowerBook G4, MacBook Pro, Power Mac G4, Power Mac G5, all for certain tasks, I could solve all this with a thunderbolt equipped MacBook pro and Mini... Think of the space saving's there...

The Pro will be around for a lot longer, it just serves a Pro/sumer market, the processors they sport generally come later down the pipe anyway like sandy bridge xeons in Q3/Q4.

I agree, far better looking and beautiful, however not as cpu/gpu demanding

True, although after inspecting some hardware benchmarks it still cuts computers in half when using the Ultra settings. At least for the same performance cut as Metro 2033 on high.

This would be great. My Cingular contract ends in November so I'll be able to choose any provider at that time, but an iPhone will keep me with Cingular. Also, my current phone is on it's last leg... exciting news!

Apple could blow a hundred million in legal expenses. It's less of an instance of throwing in the towel, and more of an instance of, "You know, the way idiot judges/juries hand out settlements these days, let's just give them a paltry sum, let them think they've won, and still destroy them in the MP3 market."

Not in 20 years, they couldn't. And no matter how often it's said to the contrary, $100 million is still very serious money.

Reminds me of 1997, when Microsoft was forced to invest $150 million in Apple as part of a settlement of a patent lawsuit, a lot of people couldn't wrap their minds around the idea that Microsoft had actually lost. They did then. Apple did today.
