I do hope that processor speed bump will not be the only change in the new MBAs. However, looking at Samsung 9 's pricepoint and what it offers makes me feel discouraged that Apple will put larger SSDs in the new MBAs.

Perhaps the new selling points will be:
    - much faster processors - closing the gap to the 13" MBP
    - increased battery life - 5:30-6 hours on 11", > 7 hours on 13"

I think it's unlikely that we see larger SSDs as standard on MBA until IB

What about the patent designs that were just shown of the Cube 2?

I feel vindicated in my 60GB 5G purchase a few months back, particularly since I got it on sale. If I can upgrade the software, I'm all chuckles. Besides, I've almost never found the screen brightness an issue.

I do wish I could ultra-boost the audio on-board. Some of the video digitizations I have are too quiet.

Sounds like a set of chips to me ;)

daveNapa isn't a chipset. It's a grouping on Intel components (processor, northbridge/southbridge, and wireless) that make up the Napa platform.

Apple only uses the processors and northbridge/southbridge from Intel. Chipset normally ONLY refers to the north/southbridge.

I have posted this link before but with the latest news maybe they will tap Motorola shoulder again. Look at the Motorola e690, looks a lot like what people have been envisioning in an Apple phone.

I just posted earlier today about how I was waiting for the Apple iPhone to upgrade my RAZR... but honestly thats it?

I feel like the only one who looks at that design and says "blah". Its a horrible design for a phone. Its a nano with a bigger screen. Thats it. There are 1000 phones out there now that look just like this.

I can't believe this is what we've been waiting for years and god knows how much in R&D for?

I'm a much bigger fan of the iChat Mobile. (I know its fake but its a much better idea than this. Granted it needs some work too...)

    http://idisk.mac.com/mox358/Public/ichat_mobile.jpg

apple makes its hardware designs simple and elegant, that is how they will make their cell phone, simple and elegant. While it may look very similar to other cellphones the software and the capabilities will be next to none. Try for instance "livingston" a technology apple has where you click and drag an app or widget onto a mobile device (in this case cell phone). Think of the implications of being able to bring what you were working on with you on your cell phone and be able to alter it

apple isn't doing good b/c of how their computers look (you can find others that look just like macs but still suck the big one)

These iMacs have discrete chips supporting 6 displays, too. But they are crippled by Thunderbolt, like the MBPs.

Do you think the MBPs will have the power for it also?As before, that support is entirely derived from ATI's GPUs and the available number of outputs.

You can get 5 Mini-DisplayPort connectors on a single slot video card.

There are no major differences but if i were you i'd go back and trade for the new one or just return the iPod and order a new one. Your windows is close not to upgrade..

It doesnt look like the new software features will be added to current 5G iPods. My iPod software just updated and only game functions were added.

what do you mean my windows is close not to upgrade??

and also, is there any chance that i might be succeeding in returning it... or even getting a refund??? i mean i took the vinyl cover off and just totally used it... can i return it right back to the apple store??

I think he was referring to the older versions of Office that had weird MDI interfaces for Word and Excel, so that it only displayed one document at a time, unless you explicitly forced two separate instances of the application to run at the same time.

Assuming they release it tomorrow, would it be available at the apple store right away(not the online store)?

Usually, Apple tends to make newly announced product available in their retail outlets as soon as it's announced, or quickly there after--within a day or two of the announcement.

Of course, there have been excpetions to this rule, so Apple might announce upgrades tomorrow with availability dependent upon when shipments arrive from overseas.

Who knows? Perhaps those shipments came early and they're already in the back rooms of stores ready to hit retail tomorrow. Prudence dictates though that we'll probably see upgrades to current lines in the next two to three weeks. Being hopeful for tomorrow is probably just a pipe dream.

I think Apple does realize that by adopting Intel as their chip supplier, it is necessary to stay current with new technology, but I also think they don't feel the need to announce/release products with that new technology as soon as their competitors do. Apple takes a very laissez faire attitude towards public appearances concerning their competition with Microsoft and other PC manufacturers. They certainly do care what those companies are up to, but they're going to pretend that they don't really care. It's all part of their marketing strategy since the whole Think Different campaign began. Therefore, announcing their upgrades so close to the competition announcing theirs, kind of doesn't make sense from Apple's marketing standpoint.

Of course, I could be completely wrong. :D

Newbie question - please don't flame me.

How big of a transition is this, as compared - for example - to the Intel chip back around 2006? What I mean is, after the transition to Intel, certain software and eventually the newest operating system itself could no longer be run on the old chip. So, is this transition as significant as that, or is this more of a speed boost kind of thing?

    Thanks.

Because the 3rd party device could be in your neighbours house so your neighbour can see or hear anything that is played through AirPlay from your devices without you knowing. And you might be playing stuff that you wouldn't want your neighbour to see.

Wouldn't the data still be encrypted by the WiFi key besides the AirPlay Key?

I would say that your neighbor would only be able to see or hear anything that is played through AirPlay only if your WiFi network is open, or if he physically plugs into your LAN. Otherwise, he'll have to break your WiFi key.

    Could someone confirm this? Thanks.

I don't think there will be anything with that name.

Apple did just very recently file for a new iMovie trade mark in Europe, through Italy. They already had the name registered in 2000/2001. This new application is from 22 August, and no real details are currently published.

How does trademarking work in Europe? Here in the US you trademark something, and you don't have to specify what industry its in, or what the trademark is used for. in Europe do you have to register it for each unique industry? Otherwise, why would they be reapplying if they already have it?

Maybe they should have run all their benchmarks at the same time!It also depends if you can run multiple instances of that application. A little help here Multimedia? I know you've used multiple instances of Toast. Care to enlighten us on what other applications we can do the same? Maybe we should make a guide on it...

Remember, having the largest market share != the best experience.

Good for MSFT if they can get back in the game. If anything I look forward to Google and MSFT battling it out. Apple needs these two to help drive their own innovation forward.

Any instances and hardware where this is carried out?

You can hook 3+3 displays from some AMD 6000-series PCIe cards. I am not sure if it also works for 4+2 or 5+1, which would allow for different screen configurations (eg: 4x24"+2x30" or 5xSmaller+1x30"3D).
