I've seen some posts about transferring "that much data" in disbelief. I calculate that a two hour movie will no more about 450MB. I hope it is, of course. This is based on a 1-hr episode of Lost is about 200MB. I fudge in 50MB for the fact that each Lost episode never is EXACTLY 1 hour.

I can transfer that size (450MB) from my ReplayTV wirelessly to my PowerBook in less than a half hour with my Airport Extreme Basestation.

So... I see no problem. Perhaps the show will be delayed a little but not more than a few minutes

I think that Apple doesn't have resources for decent quality review process.

App store works in a such way, that all underdog app developers want to update their apps as often as possible. A new update brings an app to the first page in its category, sorted by date (for a day or 2)

Apple does not have guts or desire to charge for reviews, and all this mess goes on. They "review" apps very formally, and I suspect that this is outsourced to India.

If Apple wants to make this right, they should include 10 or 20 reviews into the annual $100 developer fee, and charge $20-$50 for each additional review. That would greatly reduce the number of updates, and increase the quality of reviews.

I myself have several apps in the appstore, and my apps and updates were also rejected many times for formal reasons, which were totally stupid in the context of my apps.

And what's also funny, Apple suddenly rejected my critical update with a bug fix because of a piece of graphic that already was in my app for 6 months :-)

I don't really see this happening, if apple is going to take the risk of entering this competitive market, I see them doing it with a very innovative 'new' product.

I think the cell phone market is crowded, but so was the MP3 player market in there are really no killer phones out there, and not one phone really has a good UI, the same problems occur, everything is too complex, and it's hard to learn. Give us a clickwheel, clever Apple GUI, and functions people use, or will use, for a decent price, and you can really take on the market. the first years with very modest margins, but once the 3th party market starts joining in, you'll have the ipod effect all over

ok, but what cell phone provider are they going to use? Cingular? Verizon? I have verizon and really want them to have it.

Ugh, Americans and their providers. We may not have "free" ahum phones , but at least when you buy a cell phone, you know it will work with every company, and everywhere. And no hidden costs.

...and you think most people who buy a MBP won't swap out the drive for a 7200RPM drive or an SSD and max out their memory?

    Intelligent...no genius level thinking!

Great. Since Apple puts that crap hard drive in there, instead of simply using the computer someone has to go through all that trouble to get what they paid for (i7 processor)? Are you for real? That sounds great. I'm sure all those random people who buy from the Apple Store also buy the Apple torx screwdriver kit and get to work when they get home.

So where do I buy a TB cable to hook-up my MBP to the new iMac so can transfer files, use the iMac as a second screen, and hook up my drobo to the iMac for storage? Or are all the peripheral and cables coming in summer?

Invites are suppose to go out today or Monday.

It is definately iTunes related. It is suppose to be adding movies to iTunes.
apperently though there going to be a bit expensive when compared to the tv shows "supposedly"- http://gizmodo.com/gadgets/home-entertainment/itunes-movie-store-details-emerge-1499-per-new-movie-198140.php

    Ok, my prediction:

New nano will have to have a new name, or more than 4gb in the low end, otherwise it will be available as part of the get a free ipod campaign... i don't think apple will do that. Reminds me of a certain SNL skit.

or... mb and mbp will be upgraded to C2D... the rebate clearly lists only core duo systems as eligible. then you won't be able to get any free ipods except with a mac pro

    there you have it
I remember that SNL skit too. That was great.

Check out the October issue of PC Magazine. This phone is on the cover as "what's hot now". It is made by LG. It is described just as the iPhone is being described. So the iPhone can't look like this or they will get sued. Or this is it and LG is making it for Apple???

I guess Apple should'a put Conroe in the iMacs. Is there a chance this will mean Conroe will be in MacPro's?

It seems Apple could just wait for Clovertown...

    http://www.theregister.co.uk/2006/02/11/intel_clovertown/

which appears to be 2 Woodcrests on one processor. Could we see 8-Core Mac Pros' in 2007?

Do you realize that Mail uses 100% of a core ALL THE TIME? If I leave it open I only have 3 cores to work with. I mean it's rediculous. I have to QUIT Mail to do my work. Absurd.

What? There's something screwed with your Mail.app.

Think about it. If Mail.app used 100% of a core ALL THE TIME, people with single CPU machines wouldn't be able to do anything.

Mail on my G5 iMac is sat there at 0.0% CPU utilisation when it's not doing anything.

OMG! Are you kidding me. This is outrageous.

You mean that my phone has been tracking all my comings and goings. Like how everyday I go to work, pick up the kids from daycare and take them home. Rinse and repeat. You mean there is a file with all those boring stats of my not so secret life. And to think next week I was planning on varying it up a bit. Maybe stopping off at acquire the essential items I need for my new job as a "cleaner" on my way to get the kids.

    /end sarcasm/

The only people who will get bent about this are the ones who have no reason to be.

    http://www.macrumors.com/images/macrumorsthreadlogo.gif (http://www.macrumors.com)

MacCentral posted (http://www.macworld.com/2006/09/firstlooks/imacbench/index.php) a first look at the new Core 2 Duo iMac along with some early benchmarks.

The new iMacs which were released on Wednesday (http://www.macrumors.com/pages/2006/09/20060906091309.shtml) incorporate the latest Core 2 Duo processor from Intel. The Core 2 Duo represents the continuation of the Core Duo line which first made its appearance in Apple computers in January. Intel has maintained that the new chips would provide roughly 20% improvement in performance.

MacCentral tested the new 17" 2GHz iMac and 20" 2.16GHz iMac and compared them to the previous 20" 2GHz Core Duo and the 2.66GHz Mac Pro.

The most direct comparison between the two processors comes between the 17" 2GHz Core 2 Duo iMac and the 20" 2GHz Core Duo iMac. The overall score was 10% better in the new model while the individual tests showed gains up to 20%.

Wonder how the 24" iMac at 2.33GHz will fare.

Looks like the iPods are still at 5G with some tweaks, which is weird considering they had a whole year. I feel no urge to upgrade my current model no major difference for me. Search functions would be pretty sweet though. Wonder why they didnt just give the current 5G iPods that feature with a software update.

The new nanos look really tempting. a 4GB silver would go nicely with my PB.

my thoughts exactly... there aren't that much of a difference, right??

anyway, hey, are the search functions gonna be attainable for the last 5gen ipod as well ? with the software update??? i wish that's the case......please

i've been desperately looking for the reasons as to stick to the old 5gen which i bought just yesterday

I just bought my iMac before Apple went Intel, so i have no plans to upgrade just yet. I will probably hold out until summer 2008 and then get a MacBook Pro with the following specs:

    17" Screen (1920 x 1200)
3.0 Ghz Dual Core Processor (Santa Rosa)
    2 GB RAM
    512 MB Graphics Card
    250 GB Hard Drive (Perpendicular)
    HD-DVD or Blue-Ray Drive

    oppps my bad.

OK then early in the morning so will be evening in Paris. Frenchs anyway like it better in the evening. :p

So I have read a lot of these posts, but not all, sorry if this has been dicussed.

Is it weird to have a special event in SF on the day the Paris Expo starts?

Do you think this is pointing towards an iPod/iTunes announcement (movie rentals or whatever)?

If there is no keynote in Paris and a special event on the 12th that has something to do with iPod/Tunes, does this give further evidence that C2C will be in on the 5th?
