Oh.. if there was an exchange of gunfire I'm glad the security officer survived. I thought this was a case of an over anxious gun user.

Sorry to crash the party, but it would seem a little strange for Apple to upgrade the MacBook and/or MB Pro's until sometime after the 16th when their current college promotion ends. Promotion = clearing out old stock (of notebooks & iPods).
Keep your mom's credit card in her purse for a few more weeks.
This logic is flawed because just as they did with the MacPro, they will add the new laptops to the iPod promotion if they are released.
The ongoing promotion is no reason to delay such an upgrade. As others have stated, the promotion is an effort to clear inventory for the next model.

Wonder how the 24" iMac at 2.33GHz will fare.
i don't know-- but i have a feeling it'll be really fast and a good seller. i'd go to the Apple Store down town and look at the 20" iMac and think "goodness... any bigger and it wouldn't fit on the table." now, for the same price as a 30'' ACD, you get a monitor that is just a little smaller than the 30" PLUS you get a really really good computer. if Apple does't sell a large ammount of these than something is wrong.

I'm working with Arn on that one... Woodcrest is pretty much slated towards the PowerMacs. We may have to update the story...
sorry about that. story updated.

yay, I feel special now. ;) Thanks guys. :)
I really think the iMac should use Conroe now. I think the reason they used the Yonah chip is that they had no desktop "Core" architecture chips available. While using Merom is the easy thing to do, I hope they don't do it. The iMac is supposedly a desktop, it should use a desktop chip.
My thoughts exactly. Now that intel has a real desktop processor, why shouldn't apple's desktop computer use it?
Did anyone pay attention to the power and thermal requirements of Conroe?
The 2.40 and 2.66 (which would be great for the imacs) use 114 Watts at idle and 158-162 at load (http://www.anandtech.com/cpuchipsets/showdoc.aspx?i=2795&p=7). Here's info on power draw for original G5s (http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=32486), early 2005 G5s (http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=302439), and late 2005 G5s (http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=303540). I fail to see the problem. I'm not being flip - I really fail to see the problem. They fit G5s in to imacs, and those power draw numbers look worse than conroe's, unless I'm missing something.

I was disappointed that only Disney signed up so I bought a ton of movies in the last week. Hopefully that got the attention of the other studios and sign up too. I really like the idea of downloading musics and I think HD movies will be a killer next year. Hopefully hard drives will continue to go down in price.
Most of the movies I purchased I didn't plan to purchase in DVD format. I looked at the trailer and liked it so I bought it. It is the convenience that sold me. This is revenue the studio would never receive before now.

Always one in a bunch who brings up a personal experience to shock people into shutting up. My sister was eaten by a hyena. No hyena jokes please.
Would you like more? Maybe people should stop DUI.
My sister was run over by a drunk 6-8 years ago, broken leg. I think all the pins have been removed.
A teenage driver was killed in a head-on directly in front of my house (30 mph road) by a guy doing 50+, over the limit on alcohol, and with marijuana in his blood. His mother still keeps a memorial on the corner across the street. That has also been around 10 years.

Are you suggesting that an internationally respected technology analysis firm might have more of a clue than the fans on MacRumours? ;)
Fans of Macrumors should set up their own analysis think tank. They'll be the most respect voice in the industry and rake in millions.

i love when big companies publicly fight like this. Dont really care about the actual issue, but the details are so interesting. The lawyers basically make it look like children are fighting.
It goes to show you what our legal system really is like. Kind of goes to show you that much of our legal system is nothing more than expensive babies fighting. Also goes to show you why our government is such a mess because guess what most of our political leaders are........ You guessed it LAWYERS. This is pretty much a world wide thing.

I hope they update the macbooks, but my dad just ordered one for my mom yesterday, so it would be a bit unfortunate for her if she ended up with a brand new - old model.

she had to veer off of the road to avoid hitting me.
What if she had decided to not swerve off the road and instead run into the back of your car. When the insurance companies and police look at it, she'd be in the right (and be covered) and you'd be in the wrong with a screwed over car.

Yes I am. And fairly new to Apple (switched to Mac in 2006 and iPhone in 2007).
Does being new here mean that I have to learn how a corporation that just recorded at record net income of $5.23 billion is "DEAD"? If so, please enlighten me.
I have worked in finance for 35 years and only hold a Bachelors degree in Buisiness, but I'm sure from your response that you (and others here) know more about business than me. So please explain how the earnings report is an indication of impeding doom.... I'm always willing to learn from a group of experts!
Typical Arts student! come back when you're qualified in Science or Engineering and tell us how manufacturing products that are worth selling works.
Even the MBA crowd are appalling at their supposed specialty subject of business - that's just a euphemism for people who don't want to add value to something, but are skilled at counting the cost and value of things and are second only to accountants at removing the soul of a business in the name of making money.
Oh yeah - you said it - qualified in "buisiness" [sic] but works in finance - surely that should read - holds some form of accountancy degree and is an accountant? No? under-qualified then. (or clerk)

I for one in disappointed they went with GSM
Well it makes sense, most of the world uses GSM, it's a much larger market for Apple to aim at, combined with the much lower cost of only having to develop one phone.
Plus Verizon are coonts.
HERE ARE THE PICTURES:
You're joking right? You realise these are pipe-dream mock ups right?

Just because Apple's profit was higher doesn't dispel the end for Microsoft or Google. Every company in American except one made less profit that Apple, and trust me, they aren't all "doomed or Dead"....

who knows they might release a mini mac style media centre with OSX that will be used to download the movies and allow you to burn it straight to DVD/Blueray lol
Okay, a FrontRow/AirPort Express/iTunes-downloadable Media Center device is SWEET!! I bet that is EXACTLY what we see Apple delivering!!

This has nothing to do with GPS or Location Services and turning those off won't change that. It also has nothing to do with tracking your whereabouts.
The file contains a log of the cell towers you connected to and when. That's it. This is why the dots are in grids that get bigger the as you leave populated areas and routinely include places you haven't been within 30 miles of.
This information is most likely used for connection quality monitoring and caching for Assisted GPS cold starts. It is also the same information stored by your cell phone provider no matter what phone you use. As such, "Big Brother" already has the ability to access to this information.
At this point, the only person potentially aided by this discovery is a suspicious spouse.
This is what I'm thinking; just need to wait to see what else comes out.

I really hope it takes until november or december. Watching you all squirm and making positive posts predicting a swift release for your own peace of mind is entertaining, and probably educational.
Then this is the place to be right now if you want to see a lot of people squirming with anticipation. Unfortunately, the C2D will be shipping in select Mac systems in the next two to three weeks, so you're entertainment will be short lived. Sorry. But until that time, have a good time. :p
