I didn't know what IPS was so I looked it up. It is basically what makes LCD usable as a TV.
In-plane switching (IPS)
In-plane switching is an LCD technology which aligns the liquid crystal cells in a horizontal direction. In this method, the electrical field is applied through each end of the crystal, but this requires two transistors for each pixel instead of the single transistor needed for a standard thin-film transistor (TFT) display. Before LG Enhanced IPS was introduced in the additional transistors resulted in blocking more transmission area, thus requiring a brighter backlight, which consumed more power, and made this type of display less desirable for notebook computers. This newer, lower power technology can be found in the Apple iMac, iPad, and iPhone 4, as well as several Hewlett-Packard EliteBook mobile workstations. Currently Panasonic is using an enhanced version eIPS for their large size LCD-TV products.

Known as fringe field switching (FFS) until 2003,[17] advanced fringe field switching is a technology similar to IPS or S-IPS offering superior performance and colour gamut with high luminosity. The new Mac Pro has finally achieved acoustic running levels to make it perfect
for audio recording solutions.
It will be interesting to see how quiet the new Merom iMacs run.
We've read countless complaint threads over the years about noise issues.
This is why I think Apple will pass on some of these processors to maintain
the new standards they have achieved.
It will be interesting to see how the 65nm back to back mirrored quad chips perform compared to the 45 nm chipsets.
For now, I think the priority is still to get heat down in the notebooks and to improve battery life.

Don't attempt to use logic or scientific evidence around here zer0sum. Fanboys have never heard of it. They're too busy sticking their heads in the sand and saying it could never happen to them. After all, Apple doesn't have security updates because they feel there is a "need" for them (after all, OSX is completely secure and it couldn't happen here!), but just to make people from the Windows world 'feel better' by saying they've done something once in a blue moon. ;) :D

There's now way Apple would call a press event just to announce an incremental upgrade of Aperture (Although this will be part of it). There has to be at least "one more thing". The question is, what does Apple have up its sleeve?
1. C2D MBPs? Unsure about whether Apple will introduce them before or during the event, but with Dell C2Ds now shipping, you can bet that it will be happening in the next week or two. They'll come with a new drive bay, so the HD can be easily upgraded, since this is one of the limiting factors for a professional-grade laptop. RAM upgradable to 3GB or 4GB to maximize performance. Shipping immediately.
2. New displays? Probably. They need to be upgraded to match the brightness of the new iMac displays. Built-in iSight? Only if it can be disabled in a verifiable fashion.
3. iPhone? At Photokina? Not a chance!
4. PhotoShop killer? I don't expect a new professional photo editing app, but Apple could add plug-ins to Aperture to move it in that direction. I suppose there is room for a lite version of Aperture to fill in the middle ground between the professional grade program and iPhoto, something along the lines of PhotoShop Elements.

Yup, I know Apple's marketing loves to be ridiculous. :p 95% of customers* wouldn't notice the difference. I'm one of the 5% who will notice it but its not like I'm buying one, my iMac G5 will keep me happy for another 2+ years.

Good for MSFT if they can get back in the game. If anything I look forward to Google and MSFT battling it out. Apple needs these two to help drive their own innovation forward.

The ad on that box is marketing BS about the "interface" not the drive they're selling (which is a slow 5200 RPM SATA drive which all top out between 40-60MB/sec PERIOD, regardless whether they use SATA, USB3, Firewire 800 or Thunderbolt). Show me a 7200 RPM (or better yet a 10,000+ SCSI rated) drive connected to USB3 AND TB (or even FW800) and then compare their actual speeds. OR find an array that goes fast like the one Intel was using that also has USB3 on it and compare their actual speeds 1 to 1. When I replaced it with a 7200 RPM Hitachi, it now caps out around 110MB/sec (or 880mbps, well above FW800's theoretical cap even). Even my PPC G4 gets 105MB/sec caps with its 1.5TB 7200 RPM Seagate Barracuda drives (and SATA does eat CPU as well; if I try to run two of them at the same time I still get a total of around 100MB/sec with the CPU pegged at 95-100%. The older PCI bus is also in the way. Thus it's not the SATA interface there that's the problem either, but you might think so if you make assumptions based only on one test number and no idea what's in the computer being used or any statistics about the CPU or Bus while its being used. The longer it takes to get a large installed user base, the longer the prices will stay high on any TB products. It's plainly obvious that TB is going to be a high-end niche product just like FW800, at least for the forseeable future. While Intel's demo is totally cool, it doesn't remotely represent the AVERAGE PC user in any shape or form. Most people aren't editing 4 simultaneous streams of 1080p video on a mega-buck professional high-speed drive array.

I do contend that most people aren't going to give a crap about it one way or the other since their computers will not have it or need it for their everyday uses. The reason why i7 seems slower than i5, and 6970M seems slower than 6750M is because they have different baselines. They compared SB i5 2.7GHz (I believe it's i5-2500S) to the previous gen i3 3.2GHz (i3-550), and compared SB i7 3.4GHz (i7-2600) to previous gen i7 2.93 (i7-870).
For the graphics, they compared Radeon 6750M to 4670, and 6970M to 5750. No wonder why 6750M shows a greater performance increase.

Netbooks do not have optical drives. Ultraportables do.
The MBA looks good as a netbook. It looks bad as an ultraportable.
MBA and MBP are two different markets.
MBA is for people that want light. MBP is for people that want a full featured notebook.
So you want a big MBA.
If they could have the same processors, that would happen already at 13".
So, ONE netbook which has an optical drive. Which makes the MBA look bad because it doesn't have one.
Actually, most netbooks make the MBA look bad because it doesn't have gigabit ethernet.

The MBA looks good as a netbook. It looks bad as an ultraportable.
MBA and MBP are two different markets.
MBA is for people that want light. MBP is for people that want a full featured notebook.
So you want a big MBA.
If they could have the same processors, that would happen already at 13".
So, ONE netbook which has an optical drive. Which makes the MBA look bad because it doesn't have one.
Actually, most netbooks make the MBA look bad because it doesn't have gigabit ethernet.

Apple owns the rights to their intellectual property, this includes images and icons of their products that they have created.
However, let me be clear here... I think Apple's "stance" regarding this is "wrong". Rogue Amoeba has enriched the user experience by providing an accurate representation of the source. This should have been resolved when Apple looked into it on more than the surface level.
